Alpha Epsilon Delta, Illinois Alpha Chapter, 1937 - 1960

"The Pre-Med club of Illinois Wesleyan has been accepted by Alpha Epsilon Delta, the national pre-med fraternity, and will become the Illinois Alpha chapter of that honor group. The news was received by John Maloney, corresponding secretary, in a letter from Dr. Emmett B. Carmichael, Grand President of the Alpha Epsilon Delta fraternity. Wesleyan's chapter will be installed sometime after May 17. Alpha Epsilon Delta was recently recognized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Alpha Epsilon Delta is a national organization of premedical students which has been functioning actively since 1926 and now comprises 14 chapters located in some of the leading premedical schools of the near south. The mother chapter is located at the University of Alabama. The organization is designed to further and develop the interests of premedical students and its membership is limited to students of high scholarship and definite interest in the medical profession. Recognition by the national fraternity is regarded as an honor for the local university which sends several of its science students yearly to the best medical schools. At present 22 former Wesleyan students are engaged in the study of medicine at eight medical schools throughout the country. The new fraternity is an outgrowth of a local premedical club which has been functioning on the north side campus and which contains 20 members selected from the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes. The organization will be officially installed late in May as the Illinois Alpha Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta." -The Argus,(1937-04-21), pg.1
