Scope and Contents

This is a comprehensive collection of works composed by Abram Plum. Manuscript copies of Dr. Plum’s compositions comprise the bulk of the collection. There are also manuscript sketches and typescripts (computer generated) of Dr. Plum’s works. The finding aid lists originals and copies of the pieces as well as revisions when applicable.

Biographical / Historical

Abram M. Plum was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1925. He studied composition at The University of Iowa with Philip Greeley Clapp and Philip Bezanson, and in New York with Luigi Dallapiccola. He taught theory and composition as well as non-Western music and electronic music at Illinois Wesleyan University for twenty-six years, retiring in 1991. He composed extensively for many media, especially chamber ensembles. His compositions have been performed at many locations in the United States, as well as in France and the Netherlands. He died in 2002.
