Scope and Contents
The Thomas Griffiths collection consists of materials culminating from a long research career in the field of bat anatomy and physiology. It is made up journal articles, book chapters, book reviews, and other biographical and faculty work-related materials.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Thomas Griffiths was an Academic Dean and Professor of Biology at Illinois Wesleyan from August 1981 to July 2007. His research in bat anatomy and physiology led to numerous publications in peer-reviewed biological journals; as well as, two book chapters in Mammals of South America. Dr. Griffiths was the 1990 Illinois Wesleyan University Century Club Honoree in recognition of his teaching excellence.
Dr. Griffiths began his 26-year career at IWU following teaching positions with the University of Vermont and SUNY College of Arts and Science, Plattsburgh. He holds a master's degree in zoology from the University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts. He has also served as a Research Associate in the Department of Mammalogy at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and is an editor of Bat Research News.
