Biographical / Historical

Robert G. Leh, 81, rural Bloomington, passed away May 8, 2012, at Heartland Health Care, Normal. Robert was born April 16, 1931, in Northampton, Pa., the only child of Frank and Ruth Leh. He was married in 1954, and is survived by his wife, Ruth Leh; son, Thomas F. Leh, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Samantha and Alexander Leh.

He received his bachelor’s degree at Lafayette College, Easton, Pa., and earned his master’s and doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa. He taught at Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pa.; Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y.; University of Buffalo, Buffalo, N.Y.; Lycoming College, Williamsport, Pa.; and at the U.S. Army Information Center, Fort Richardson, Alaska. He served in the U.S. Army, 1956-1957, in Anchorage, Alaska.

Robert was a professor of political science at Illinois Wesleyan University from 1966 to 1998. He was chosen to serve as president of the United Nations Association, McLean County Chapter, in 1967, and headed the IWU Model U.N. program for more than 30 years.

He is remembered for his compassionate nature, an unparalleled dedication to his students and an encyclopedic knowledge of politics and history. An avid hobbyist, he enjoyed building and flying radio control model airplanes. He also built historic layouts for model trains.
