Biographical / Historical

James E. Whitehurst was born in Fort Wayne, IN. He attended Northwestern University-Garrett Evangelical Theological School, and received his doctorate from the University of Edinburgh. After serving as professor of Religion at IWU for 30 years, Dr. Whitehurst retired to become pastor of Crystal Beach Community Church. In addition to his deep understanding of world religions, Whitehurst was a professional magician, performing regularly. He ultimately moved to Tampa to continue his ministry, and performing magic tricks, where he passed away on February 2, 2014, at the age of 89.
