"Wesleyanites have seen reports of meetings of The Life Service Legion in the "Argus," and, with reasonable curiosity, have wondered about the new organization on our campus. It is with pleasure therefore, that we are introduced to the Wesleyana for the first time. Our purpose is to acquaint the students with the opportunities and problems in the various fields of Christian activity; to encourage student enlistment in life service; to support all the Christian enterprises of the school, and to encourage membership and service in the Christian Church. The Life Service Legion of Illinois Wesleyan is very well organized, having for its President Roy Deland. There are also four chairmen who have done most efficient work during the past year. Lloyd Strouse, as chairman of the Program Committee, has provided for some very interesting meetings. So far, Ministerial Work, Home Missions, Foreign Missions, Y. M. and Y. W. Work, and Religious Education have been the topics for discussion, the principal speakers having been Dr. C. M. Duncan, Miss Wold, Mr. Bland Roberts, Student Volunteer Traveling Secretary, Mr. O. E. Pense, State Student "Y" Secretary, and Rev. Higdon. For almost every meeting papers related to the main topic have been prepared by the various members. Irene Jacobssen, as chairman of the Service Committee, has organized and sent out the Gospel Team. It is through this Committee that the Map of World Events has been put up in the hall. Louis Unger, as chairman of Extension work, is finding Wesleyan students-to-be, throughout the Illinois Conference who are interested in our Legion and its work. The Student Volunteers are also members of our Legion, their band having been known to you before. This year a large delegation from Wesleyan went to the Student Volunteer Conference at Greenville. They came home the proud possessor of the State Vice President, Alice Peabody, who went as a delegate soon after to atend the National Council at New York. In March, Wesleyan welcomed volunteers from the different colleges included in this conference, to the council held in Bloomington. And now, you may be interested in knowing that Wesleyan's Life Service Legion has become part of one great national organization. Four Wesleyan students attended the conference at Champaign in February where our group was made one of the many "Student Fellowship for Christian Service,, organizations in America. We hope to know you better next year. " -Wesleyana, 1923
