"A new national movement among Methodist students of the United States was forecast by an action of the first National Methodist Student Conference held in St. Louis, Mo. Dec. 28-31, 1937. Students of the Methodist Episcopal church, the Methodist Episcopal church, South, and the Methodist Protestant church participated in the conference and will also take part in the new movement." -The Argus, 1/12/1938

Between 1939-1956 there were state conferences, some held at IWU, and there were delegates sent from IWU. In 1957, it was called MSM and it held regular meetings on campus. It was seen as a youth organization. In 1968 MSM has become part of the University Christian Movement (UCM), which gives students of many denominational backgrounds the opportunity to involve themselves in the program provided by the deputation teams. UCM disbanded in 1969.

The purpose of MSM at IWU: 1. To provide Christian Fellowship. 2. To profice a Christian experience which will foster ecumenical understanding. 3. To encourage participation in a university Christian movement. 4. To witness to the relevance of Christianity to the campus community.
