Biographical / Historical
"Saturday, March 28, 1908, the Omicron chapter of Kappa Delta made its advent among the Greek Sororities at Illinois Wesleyan University. This chapter was organized from a former local, known as the Alpha Phi Epsilon Sorority.
A quarterly journal is published called the "Angelos," which is a very creditable publication. In a short time a new song book will make its appearance, which doubtless, through its lines of cheer, will hold forever dear the bonds of the fraternity. The editing of these publications is trusted to the members of Zeta Chapter at the University of Alabama. The badge is diamond-shaped, a little less than an inch in diameter, and bears on a background of black enamel the device of a dagger, above which are displayed the letters of "Kappa Delta" and below the letters "A. O. T." The fraternity expresses its aim in the pubic motto: "We strive for that which is noble." The colors are olive green and white, and the flower is the white rose." -Illinois Wesleyan Argus, Apr. 16, 1908
The Omicron chapter of Kappa Delta is one of the earliest chapters founded in the national sorority. The original chapter house burned down in 1956 and was rebuilt at 1105 North Main Street. Since national Kappa Delta’s founding in 1897, its members have followed its open motto, Ta Kala Diokomen: Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest. We are also built on a platform of instilling confidence in all women, both in our sorority and not.
Mission Statement: Kappa Delta Sorority is a national organization for women committed to: Encouraging members to live with integrity and honor in the bonds of lifelong friendship; building confidence in members to excel in college and throughout their lives; inspiring members to be active leaders, responsible citizens and engage members of the community; and providing opportunities and experiences that foster personal and professional growth for a lifetime.
