Biographical / Historical
Delta Psi, the predominantly black service-oriented sorority founded at IWU last January, has affiliated with Delta Sigma Theta, a national sorority founded on similar ideals and heritage. Delta Psi has participated in several service projects during the recent year, including fund raising to fight sickle cell anemia, and work with the Bloodmobile. The chapter now has nine members. The new Delta Sigma Theta chapter has no immediate plans to acquire a living unit. The organization says it places more emphasis on community service than it does on sponsoring chapter houses
-Argus, May 5, 1972
It was formed as a community interest group with the goal of being "more relevant to cultural and social needs than the existing Greek Sororities on the IWU campus. It's constitution states the group's purposes and ideals of service and that women are eligible for membership regardless of race, religion, color, or natural origin. Delta Psi had to look into national sororities that the group might wish to join. It plans to affiliate with Delta Sigma Theta, a national service sorority. -Argus, Oct. 29, 1971, pg. 7.
The sorority disbanded in 1983. In 1997, students on campus got the sorority re-activated. At present, this sorority is not recognized at IWU and there are not plans to re-establish.
