Biographical / Historical
The Black Men in Action (B.M.I.A.) was founded in 1994 by Malik Jones, Frederic Brown, and Antwane Cowen. The organization first started out as a group of young men who wanted to be able to just talk about anything on their mind with their fellow minority friends, and be able to support each other. Their goals were "to provide a storng, positive image for the minority community of Illinois Wesleyan, to establish a better environment for all minorities here at IWU, to estabish a positive alliance with the Minority Alumni Network and the Black Student Union, and to educate the campus about African-American Culture."
