Biographical / Historical
This organization is the product of a need that the University's ministerial students have felt for some time. The various societies and organizations, previously existing were filling all the wants which brought them into being, but did not supply the demand for the close fellowship so essential to men preparing for the ministry. This feeling crystallized December 13, 1905, and resulted in the formation of the Oxford Club, which owes its ideals as well as its name to the parent Wesleyan movement. The purpose of the Club is two-fold: First, to aid in the solution of personal religious problems, by bringing the young men into vital relationship with the faculty adviser and with one another; second, to assist, in special meetings, by pulpit supply and kindred work, the pastors of the charges contiguous to Bloomington. During the year prominent ministers of the city have addressed the Club on subjects growing out of a life given to Christian effort, and thus experience, mentality and consecration have contributed their share of helpfulness. Dr. Ritschel, of the School of Theology, Boston University, also will address the Club this present semester. Most of the members have been of material assistance in aiding pastors in the revival services of the past season and the Club is planning increased effort for the coming collegiate year. -1906 Wesleyana
