Biographical / Historical
The Council for Latin American Student Enrichment (CLASE) was founded in the year 1988 to serve the student of Illinois Wesleyan University. CLASE was founded in order to promote culture, heritage and diversity among the students of IWU, and to promote pride and unity among Latin American students. Since its inception CLASE has been very instrumental in serving as a voice for both the Latin American Community and the multicultural student body as a whole. Known for activism, CLASE has been a key voice for confronting issues of diversity on IWU's campus...Some of CLASE's annual events include a diversity workshop hosted by a number of other multicultural groups including the Black Student Union, Pride Alliance, and Southeast Asian Students Association, a formal dance, the Mariachi Dinner and the Dia de Los Muertos observance. CLASE also holds a seat in the IWU Student Senate. As a member of the Intercultural Leadership Alliance, CLASE is also instrumental in promoting cooperation amongst all multicultural students.
The last mention of this organization is in the Argus 3/2/2007. It was the predecessor for the the Spanish and Latino Student Association (SALSA) that was formed in 2008.
