Biographical / Historical
"Newly formed on the Wesleyan campus is Gamma Iota (G.I.), organized for the veterans of both World War I and II. The purpose of the organization is to ease the problems of returning servicemen who may come to Wesleyan under the G.I. Bill of Rights, and to bridge the gap between the civilian student and the veteran. It is also designed to give veterans a reliable source of information concerning their rights both in school and outside of school, such as on Life Insurance and G.I. hospitalization. Campus Group Gamma Iota is entirely a campus organization, the first in the state, and is in no way affiliated with American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars. It is not intended to compete with any of the other social groups on campus. The credit for founding and organizing Gamma Iota goes to Bill Humphries. Under the direction of Dr. Wayne Wantland, new dean of men and faculty adviser for the group, Wally Waddington, Ed Landry and Armond Windmoeller have drawn up a charter which will be published in the Argus at a later date. The only membership requirements for' Gamma Iota are an honorable discharge from any branch of the service and a serial number. Officers will be elected twice a year and the organization will meet twice a month at luncheons in the hut. The newly elected officers are: president, Bill Humphries; vice-president, Ed Landry, and secretary, Chad Reed. Membership now consists of twenty-two students and faculty, including Dean Wallis, Dr. Ralph E. Browns, Coach Melvin Brewer, Dr. Wayne Wantland, Mr. Oliver Luerssen, and Dr. Merrill Holmes" -The Argus, 4/25/45a
There is no mention of it in the Argus after 1946.
