The Pratt Family Collection
Scope and Contents
The Pratt Family Collection consists of clippings and news articles, concert programs, personal and professional correspondence, and other materials related to award-winning pianist Awadagin Pratt. A number of files relating to Awadagin’s father, Dr. Theodore A.E.C. Pratt, contain items from his early education and life in Sierra Leone, personal research and published papers, and materials spanning his extensive career as a Physics professor and consultant. There are a few files related to Theodore’s wife, Dr. Mildred Pratt, also a professor at Illinois State University, containing biographical information, clippings and news articles, her involvement with the Bloomington-Normal Black History project, and personal correspondence with the White House. A small amount of material is related to Theodore and Mildred’s daughter, Dr. Menah Pratt-Clarke.

Biographical / Historical
The Pratt family’s impact on Bloomington-Normal includes the Pratt Music Foundation (http://prattmusicfoundation.com/), established in the memory of T.A.E.C. Pratt in 1996, that provides scholarships for lessons at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Music Preparatory Program. In addition, Dr. Mildred Pratt established the Mildred Pratt Student Assistance Fund at Illinois State University.
